Planning your visit
Montjuïc Cable Car is the 750-metre aerial route from Parc de Montjuïc to Castell station, passing Mirador station and rising 84.5 metres on Montjuïc Hill. Search results may also use Teleférico de Montjuïc, Montjuïc Gondola, or Barcelona Cable Car; this service is separate from the Port Vell Aerial Tramway, which does not serve Montjuïc Hill. The glass cabins carry up to 8 passengers and provide panoramic views of Barcelona.
For August 2026, seasonal operating hours are 10:00–21:00 from June through September, with last access 15 minutes before closing and 20 minutes before closing for the full route. The lower station is at Avinguda Miramar, 30, beside the upper Montjuïc Funicular station; bus line 150 also stops at Avinguda Miramar, while bus line 150 from Plaça d’Espanya continues to Castell station.
Castell station is a practical arrival point for Montjuïc Castle, whose entrance is close to the cable-car stop, while the Mirador station serves the Mirador de l’Alcalde. Parc de Montjuïc also places visitors near Fundació Joan Miró and the Anella Olímpica, making the cable car useful for combining several Montjuïc sights in one outing.
The facilities include wheelchair accessible cabins, ramps, suitable platform spacing, and tactile ticket-machine features. From Castell station, visitors can continue to Montjuïc Castle; from Parc de Montjuïc, the Funicular connects with Paral·lel metro station on lines L2 and L3.
Before you buy
Concrete caveats: security, bags, cancellation, time slots.
- The Montjuïc Cable Car (Telefèric de Montjuïc) is completely separate from the Port Cable Car (Transbordador Aeri del Port). Tickets are not interchangeable, and they depart from different locations.
- Admission to Montjuïc Castle (Castell de Montjuïc) at the summit is not included. You must purchase a separate entry ticket to access the historic fortress once you step off the cable car.
- The Montjuïc Funicular, which connects Paral·lel metro station to the cable car base, is part of the city's public transit system. It requires a standard metro ticket or travel card, which is not covered by your cable car booking.
- One-way cable car tickets are only sold in person at the station ticket windows. If you want to walk one way and ride the other, you cannot buy your ticket online in advance and must queue on-site.
- Online tickets only bypass the ticket purchase window. You must still join the main boarding queue to get into a cabin, which can experience significant wait times during peak summer months and midday.
- If you purchase multiple tickets under a single online booking, the entire group must travel together and board the cable car at the same time.
- Official tickets are non-refundable but valid for 180 days. If you require date flexibility or free cancellation, you must book through third-party platforms and verify their specific checkout terms.
Frequently asked questions
The things people ask most.
Do I need to print my ticket or book a specific time slot?
No, mobile tickets are fully accepted on your smartphone. Standard tickets are typically open-date and valid for 180 days from purchase, meaning you do not need to reserve a strict time slot in advance.
Can I cancel or refund my Montjuïc Cable Car ticket?
Official tickets purchased directly are generally non-refundable. However, booking through partner platforms like Tiqets or GetYourGuide may offer free cancellation up to 24 hours before your visit, which is highly recommended if your travel plans or the weather might change.
Does buying an online ticket allow me to skip all queues?
No. An online ticket allows you to skip the ticket office purchase queue, but all visitors must join the same boarding queue to access the cable car cabins. Boarding lines can build up during peak midday hours or when cruise ships dock.
Are there luggage restrictions or storage lockers at the stations?
Only small personal items and bags are permitted inside the cabins. Large suitcases, non-folding strollers, and bulky gear are not allowed, and there are no luggage lockers available at the stations, so you must travel light.
Who is eligible for free or reduced-price tickets?
Children under 4 years old ride for free. Children aged 4 to 12 qualify for a reduced-price child ticket, while visitors with an accredited disability of 33% or higher can access special rates directly at the ticket office.
Does the cable car ticket include the funicular or Montjuïc Castle entry?
No. The cable car ticket only covers the 750-meter aerial ride. The Montjuïc Funicular from Paral·lel metro station requires a standard city transit ticket, and entry to Montjuïc Castle at the summit must be purchased separately.
What happens if I arrive late in the day?
Because tickets are open-date, you cannot miss a specific time slot. However, you must arrive at least 15 to 20 minutes before the seasonal closing time to ensure you can board the final cabins of the day.
